GroupAccomodation, one of our flagship sites out grew its current hosting due to an SEO drive and increased popularity, so a move to a new upgraded server was required. 33,000 images, over 800 files and 560megs of database files later the site was moved in a live environment in under 14 days.


August 2011
Out of the office for a change, we spent a few days setting up a public WIFI system for the local tourist hot spot Jamaica Inn. Full broadband is now available through out the hotel with plans to extend the coverage into the bar and restaurant areas at a later date.

The visual and programmatic updates to GroupAccommodation.com are now live and even though we say it ourselves, its a neat bit of work. The site looks cleaner and brighter and we have save a few seconds load time on a few of the more popular site searches. We also worked very hard to ensure cross browser comparability with the new layouts, so it even looks great in Internet Explorer!

We are proud to announce that we have just received a commission from the Launceston Swimming Club to design and host a new club website for them.

As well as our normal high standard of web design, the site is to include a full content management system in order to easily publish upcoming events and race results

This site had to mirror the design quality of the accommodation whist appealing to a broad spectrum of potential customers. Web Design Cornwall >> The European Union’s Privacy and Electronic Communications Directive, came into effect last month, with the UK apparently deferring for 12 months. This effectively gives UK websites a year to comply with the directive and implement any solutions needed. If you use cookies on your website there is a good chance you will need to look very carefully about how they are used and if you could avoid them. More information can be found at ico.gov.uk

Spotlike have created a free online app that will allow you to create a QR code that can then be added to any printed material. Web Design Cornwall >> Always keen explore new Content Management System frameworks we have been looking at Concrete 5 (C5) this week. As its written in PHP /MySql it looks like a real contender for Joomla and Drupal. As far as set up goes it’s a little more fiddly than the former but has much less of a learning curve than the latter.

The real acid test though will be to see what you can do with it in practice. We are going to set up a sandbox area on the server and build a few modules, but at the moment it might take over as our favourite framework for boiler plate sites.

 Web Design Cornwall >> The second major browser release this month – FireFox 4 is now available for download. It’s going down the same visual route as Explorer and Chrome with a minimal look and the loss of various tool bars along the top.

It’s taken over a year to develop but version 4.0 release catapults Firefox back to the front of the pack, bringing parity in performance, features, usability, and support for Web standards.

Web Design Cornwall >> Today’s the day that Microsoft launch Internet explorer 9 – the long awaited leaner meaner browser that promises to be more compatible, faster and stick a bit closer to web standards. Perhaps more out of necessity than anything else, Microsoft has finally decided to fully adhere to web standards. Microsoft is trumpeting IE9’s support for HTML5 and CSS 3, and it appears to be paying more than lip service to web standards, scoring 95 out of 100 in the now (somewhat outdated) ACID3 tests.

Looks wise its very similar to Google chrome with a very minimalist interface, its quicker but if you have already made the move, there’s little else to tempt anyone back from Chrome or Firefox.
